Our mission
Buying or selling something used — a car in a parking lot, a boat off a marketplace, a horse from a ranch — should not mean wading through walls of text only to hit a surprise subscription at the end. Bill of Sale Generator exists to make that moment simple: a fast, honest, state-aware tool that helps you create a DMV-ready bill of sale in minutes.
What we do
We built a free bill of sale generator that:
- Works for every common item type — vehicles, motorcycles, boats, trailers, ATVs, RVs, firearms, equipment, livestock, and general property.
- Adapts to your state, telling you whether you need a notary or witness, which official form applies, and what to bring to the DMV.
- Validates the details that actually get documents rejected — VINs, odometer readings, missing signatures.
- Runs entirely in your browser, so your information never leaves your device.
How we're different
The most common complaint about the incumbents is surprise billing — a "free" form that turns into a $39–$50 monthly subscription you have to remember to cancel. We flipped that model:
- Free to create and download. No account, no signup, no email wall.
- One flat, one-time price for an optional professional PDF and Word file — never a subscription.
- Genuinely state-specific. We maintain a per-state requirements reference backed by official government sources, not generic "required in some states" hedging.
How we research
Our state requirements and guides are based on primary sources — state DMV, Department of Revenue, and Secretary of State pages, plus federal rules like the NHTSA odometer requirement. We link to those official sources on every state page and review the content regularly. We never fabricate reviews, ratings, statistics, or credentials. Read more in our Editorial Policy.
An important note
Bill of Sale Generator is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We provide general information and a document-drafting tool. Requirements change and can vary by county, so always confirm with your state's DMV or the official source. See our Legal Disclaimer.
